Our planting process

From selection to establishment

01Site assessment — we evaluate soil, drainage, sun exposure, and proximity to structures and utilities.
02Species recommendation — we suggest trees matched to your site conditions, goals, and maintenance preferences.
03Proper planting — correct depth, backfill technique, and initial watering to give roots the best start.
04Mulching — a proper mulch ring protects roots, retains moisture, and prevents mower damage.
05Establishment guidance — we walk you through the first-year watering and care schedule for your specific tree.

Common Questions

Tree planting FAQs

  • Fall (October–November) and early spring (March–April) are ideal planting windows in Central Kentucky. Cooler temperatures and reliable rainfall help roots establish before summer heat stress.

  • It depends on the mature size of the species. Small ornamental trees (redbud, serviceberry) can be planted 10–15 feet from a structure. Large shade trees (oak, maple, sycamore) need 20–30 feet minimum. We'll advise on spacing during your consultation.

  • Yes. We offer a one-year establishment warranty on trees we supply and plant. If a tree fails due to planting error or defect in the first year, we replace it at no charge.

  • Yes. If you've already purchased a tree, we can plant it for you. Note that our warranty applies only to trees we source, as we can't control the quality of nursery stock we didn't select.

  • Fast-growing species like red maple and tulip poplar can provide meaningful shade in 5–7 years. Slower-growing oaks take longer but live for centuries. We'll set realistic expectations for your chosen species.
