• Do pergolas require a permit in Lexington?

  Freestanding pergolas under a certain size may not require a permit, but attached structures typically do. We assess your specific project and handle any required permits as part of our service.

• What is the difference between a pergola and a gazebo?

  A pergola has an open or slatted roof and is typically rectangular, often attached to a home or deck. A gazebo is a fully enclosed freestanding structure with a solid roof, usually octagonal or round.

• Can a pergola be attached to my existing deck?

  Absolutely — this is one of our most popular combinations. We assess the deck's structural capacity and add proper footings or posts to support the pergola load without compromising the deck.

• How long do wood pergolas last?

  Cedar pergolas, properly sealed and maintained, last 15–20 years. Pressure-treated pine is more affordable and lasts 10–15 years with regular staining. Vinyl and aluminum options are virtually maintenance-free and last 25+ years.

• Can you add a louvered roof to an existing pergola?

  In many cases, yes. We evaluate the existing structure's condition and load capacity. If it's sound, we can retrofit a louvered system. If not, we'll recommend a full replacement.
